People watch video (duh). Lots of it (duh). Is your brand there?
Video is the one thing you have to start considering for your ad spend. Why? Two-thirds of US Marketers are currently running video ads on Facebook, while more than half do so on YouTube, according to an April 2017 survey done by Animoto. And more than half of those marketers surveyed plan to increase their spend on video ads in one of the four platfomrs mentioned below. We are firmly in the visual digital age.
What about digital video advertising overall? 89% of advertisers intending to invest more in this medium. The reason? Nearly eight in 10 branding/awareness advertisers (79%) say that video delivers a ‘high effect,’ significantly better performance than static display. If you haven’t begun planning for this, don’t worry. It’s still new to a lot of Durango as of right now.
Indeed, one source projects that as much as 80% of internet traffic will be driven by video by 2019. Social media is the source for much of this traffic.
- Facebook: Native video gets 3.8 billion daily views
- Instagram: Users upload 95 million photos and videos per day
- Twitter: Videos are 6 times more likely to get shared on Twitter than photos
- YouTube: Over 1 billion hours of video are watched daily. (According to Nielsen data, Amercians watch about 1.25 billion hours of TV each day, and that figure is declining)
So YouTube is on the rise, TV is in decline. In the not-too-distant future, you have to consider a digital video advertising plan. It’d be hard to argue that big things aren’t happening on video platforms. Have you considered advertising there?
Here’s three key things we’re learning from producing video content for ourselves that are important in the Durango area market.
- Find out how to keep your story short. The shorter the better (2 minutes or less). And be able to do it in 30 seconds. While you’re at it, 15 seconds is also necessary too.
- Tell a story that people will identify with.
- Authentic
- Entertaining
- Emotional
- Relatable
- Useful
- Write a story where the video works with sound off (because of Facebook/Instagram/Twitter)
The good news is that you can do this with a basic smartphone and some plug and play editing software (iMovie, Windows Movie Maker). By the way, can help you do this with our own in-house video department.
